How to Add a Cart Drawer to Your Squarespace Store

The default Squarespace cart experience has a fundamental problem: it takes customers away from what they were doing. They're browsing, they add something, and suddenly they're on a separate cart page — disconnected from the products they were exploring.

A cart drawer solves this. It keeps customers on the page, shows them their cart in a slide-in panel, and lets them check out without breaking their browsing flow. Here's how to add one to your Squarespace store.

What a Cart Drawer Does

A cart drawer (also called a slide-out cart or mini cart) replaces the default cart navigation. When a customer adds a product or clicks the cart icon, a panel slides in from the right side of the screen. The customer sees their cart contents, can make adjustments, and can proceed to checkout — all without leaving the current page.

The key benefit is continuity. The page they were browsing stays visible behind the drawer. They haven't left. They haven't committed to the checkout flow. They can add more products and come back to the drawer as many times as they want.

Does Squarespace Have a Native Cart Drawer?

No. Squarespace 7.1 routes customers to a dedicated cart page when they click the cart icon. There's no native drawer or side-panel option.

How to Add a Cart Drawer to Squarespace

UpsellGrow adds a cart drawer to your Squarespace 7.1 store as part of its upsell system. Installation is through the native Squarespace block editor — no code, no developer, no custom CSS.

Once installed, the drawer is active automatically. Clicking the cart icon or adding a product opens the panel from the right side of the screen. The drawer displays cart items, quantities, prices, and a checkout button. Customers can adjust quantities and remove items directly from the panel.

Adding Upsell Offers Inside the Drawer

The real advantage of UpsellGrow's cart drawer isn't just the improved UX — it's the ability to add offer suggestions inside the panel. Three positions are available:

Above the checkout button: The last thing the customer sees before clicking Checkout. Highest-intent position.

Below the cart items: Appears as the customer reviews their cart contents. Natural reading flow.

Popup on checkout click: Fires when the customer clicks Checkout. Creates a deliberate "before you go" moment.

All three UpsellGrow offer types work in the drawer: cross-sell, bundle, and frequently bought together.

Cart Trigger Behaviour

When multiple products are in the cart, UpsellGrow lets you configure which one determines which offer fires:

  • Last product added (default): The most recently added item triggers the offer. Feels most relevant to the customer's current action.
  • Highest value product in cart: The most expensive item triggers the offer. Good for stores with a clear hero product.
  • Highest priority offer: Ignores product triggers entirely — fires the highest-ranked qualifying offer.

This setting lives in the Rules tab for each slide-out cart offer and can be configured independently per offer.

The Full Cart Experience

Adding a cart drawer is just one part of the picture. UpsellGrow also supports offers on the standard cart page (for customers who navigate there directly), the order confirmation page, and the order status page. You can run offers across all of these locations simultaneously — each with its own configuration.

Does It Affect Squarespace's Checkout?

No. The drawer is a display layer on top of the existing Squarespace cart. When a customer clicks Checkout from the drawer, they proceed to Squarespace's standard checkout exactly as normal. Payment processing, shipping rules, and fulfillment all work as expected.
