How to Add Related Products to Your Squarespace Store

Squarespace is a great platform for building a beautiful store. What it doesn't do well is help you sell more once someone is already there. There's no native related products section, no "you might also like," no cross-sell feature of any kind. Customers view a product, add it to cart, and leave — with no prompting to consider anything else.

Adding related products to your Squarespace store is one of the most straightforward ways to increase average order value. Here's how to do it.

Why Related Products Matter

The data on this is consistent: customers who see related product suggestions spend more per order. Not because they feel pressured, but because the suggestion is relevant and timely. They're already in buying mode. They're already thinking about the product category. Showing them something complementary removes the effort of going to find it themselves.

The key word is relevant. A random selection of other products from your store is nearly useless. A carefully chosen complement to what they're viewing converts meaningfully.

What Squarespace Includes Natively

Squarespace 7.1 does not include a related products feature. There is no built-in "customers also bought" section, no "frequently bought together," and no cross-sell widget on product pages.

Some themes include a "related products" section that shows items from the same category. This is better than nothing, but it's not targeted — it just pulls from the same collection, which often means showing competing products rather than complementary ones.

For genuine related product functionality, you need a plugin.

How to Add Related Products With a Plugin

UpsellGrow adds three types of related product suggestions to your Squarespace store:

Cross-Sells (Manual)

You choose which products to suggest alongside which trigger products. If someone views a leather bag, you show them the matching wallet. If someone views a candle, you show them the holder. You control the pairing completely.

This works best when you know your products well and have clear complementary pairs in your catalog.

Frequently Bought Together (Data-Driven)

UpsellGrow analyses your order history and surfaces the products customers actually buy together. This is the most powerful recommendation type because it reflects real purchasing behaviour — not a guess.

As more orders come in, the data updates automatically. The suggestions get more accurate over time.

Bundles

Instead of suggesting a separate product, you offer a curated package at a discount. The customer gets a better deal. You get a higher-value order.

Where Related Products Can Appear

One of UpsellGrow's key advantages is placement flexibility. Related products can appear in six positions on the product page:

  • Above the product title
  • Below the product title
  • Above the Add to Cart button
  • Below the Add to Cart button
  • At the bottom of the page
  • As a popup when the customer clicks Add to Cart

Beyond the product page, you can also show related products in the slide-out cart, on the cart page, on the order confirmation page, and on the order status page. Five pages total. Nineteen positions.

Setting Up Related Products: Step by Step

Step 1: Install UpsellGrow on your Squarespace 7.1 store. It installs as a native block — no code injection required.

Step 2: In the UpsellGrow dashboard, click "New Offer" and select the page location (start with Product Page).

Step 3: Choose "Cross-sell" as the offer type. Select the trigger product — the product that will trigger the suggestion.

Step 4: Select the products you want to suggest. You can suggest one or several.

Step 5: Choose the position on the page. For most stores, "Below Add to Cart" or "Below title" are the best starting points.

Step 6: Customize the widget to match your store's design. Set the layout (stack or grid), the number of products shown, the colors, and the button text.

Step 7: Publish the offer. It goes live immediately on the selected trigger product.

How Many Related Products Should You Show?

For stack layout: two to three suggestions work best. More than three starts to feel like a catalog page rather than a recommendation.

For grid layout: three or four products in a row. Keep it visually clean.

The goal is to add context to what the customer is looking at, not to overwhelm them with options. One excellent suggestion outperforms five mediocre ones every time.

Measuring the Impact

UpsellGrow tracks impressions, clicks, conversions, and revenue for every offer you create. Check this data weekly when you first launch. If a suggestion isn't converting, try a different product pairing or a different position on the page.

The best related products strategy is an iterative one — test, measure, improve.
